To My Dearest Family
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say. But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from the Bridge. Here I dwell with God above. Here there's no more tears of sadness here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and he said, "I welcome you. It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on." God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the day's chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you .... in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years, because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that god has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, that I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too; That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night .... "My day was not in vain." And now I am contented .... that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along I made somebody smile.
God says: "If you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walkind down the street with me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind." "And when it's time for you to go .... from that body to be free. Remember you're not going .... you're coming here to me."

Do I Go Home Today ?
My family brought me home cradled in their arms. They cuddled me and smiled at me and siad I was full of charm. They played with me and laughed wih me and showered me with toys. I sure do love my family, especially the girls and boys.
The children loved to feed me, they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets. I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold the lead, I'm very proud to say. These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory, because I now live in the shelter - without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe. But I didn't know the differenced between the old ones and the new. The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug. So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug. They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I did not understand, although I tried and tried. The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time. I wish that I could change things, I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely, in the back yard, on a chain. I barked and barked, all day long, just to keep from going insane.
So they brought me to the shelter, but were embarrassed to say why. They said I caused an allergy, then they each kissed me goodbye. If I'd only had some classes, when I was just a little pup, then I would have been a better dog when I was all grown up.
"You only have one day left." I heard the worker say. Does that mean I have a second change?
DO I GO HOME TODAY?

High up in the Courts of Heaven
High up in the couts of Heaven today A little dog angel waits; With the other angles he will not play But sits alone at the gates. "I know that my master will come, says he And when he comes he will call for me."
He seems the spirits that pass him by As they hasten towards the throne; And he watches them with a wistful eye As he sits at the gates alone. "I know if I just wait patiently Some day my master will come", says he.
And his master, far on earth below, As he sits in his easy chair, Forgets sometimes and he whistles low For the dog that isn't there. And the little dog angel cocks his ears And dreams that his master's call he hears.
I know when at last his master waits Outside in the dark and cold, For the hand of Death to pen the gates That lead to those courts of gold, The little dog angel's eager bark Will comfort his soul in the shivering dark.

I Stood By Your Bed Last Night
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ... in the stillness of that evening, I was ver close to you.
The day is over ... I smile and watch you yawning and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief devide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those wo were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heat.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together .........

When The Time Comes
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then will you do what must be done For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be said I understand But don't let grief then stay your hand For on this day, more than the rest Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years You wouldn't want me to suffer so When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eys no longer see.
I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me Although my tail it's last has waved From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you Who has decided this thing to do We've been so close we two these years Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Doggy Dreams
You came through the door, so glad to be home After your rapturous run, And now you are stretched out on the rug, Worn out by exertion and fun.
All lazy and warm, and well content, You're sleeping as little dogs do, With your satiny head on your little soft paws Oh, what a picture are you!
What are your dreaming of, little brown dog? That is something I'd love to know. Are you chasing a rabbit through the woods, Or romping in feathery snow?
Or are you racing over the heath, Where there's so much to explore, Enjoying the myriad scents and sounds, With other wee dogs galore?
One bright eye opens, it peers around Making certain we're still here, And then you roll over - your party piece With four little legs in the air, Till sleep comes over you, once again;
How snug and how safe you seem, Oh, little brown dog, so close to my heart, How I wish I could have a part ....
A share in your lovely dream ! |

I AM YOUR PUPPY
I am your puppy and I will love you until the end of Earth, but please know a few things about me.
I am a puppy, this means my intelligence and capacity for learning are the same as an 8 month old child. I am your puppy, I will chew EVERYTHING I can get my teeth on. This is how I explore and learn about the world. Even HUMAN children put things in their mouths. It's up to you to guide me whats mine to chew and whats not.
I am a puppy, and I cannot hold my bladder for long than 1-2 hours. I cannot feel that I need to poop until its actually beginning to come out. I cannot vocalise nor tell you that I need to go, and I cannot have bowel and bladder control until about 6-9 months. Do not punish me if you do not let me out for 3 hours and I tinkle. It is YOUR fault. As a puppy it is wise to remember that I NEED to potty after eating, sleeping, playing, drinking and every 2-3 hours in addition. If you want me to sleep through the night, then do not gie me water after 7-8 pm. A crate will help me to learn to housebreak easier, and will avoid you being mad at me. I am a puppy, accidents WILL happen, please be patient with me, in time I will learn.
I am a puppy, I like to play. I will run around and chase imaginary monsters, and chase your feet and your toes and attack you, and chase fuzzballs, other pets and small kids. It is play, it's what I do. Do not be mad at me or expect me to be sedate, melow or sleep all day. If my high energy level is too much for you, maybe you could consider and older rescue from a dogs home or shelter.
My play is beneficial, use your wisdom to guide me in my play with appropriate toys, and activities like chasing a rolling ball, or gentle tug games, or plenty of chew toys for me. If I nip you too hard, talk to me in "dog talk" by giving a loud yelp as this is how my mother used to communicate with me and I will understand. If I get too rough simply ignore me for a few minutes or put me in my crate with an appropriate chew toy.
I am a puppy, hopefully you will not yell, hit, strike, kick or beat an 8 month old child so please do not do the same to me. I am delicate, and also very impressionable. If you treat me harshly now I will grow up learning to fear being hit, spanked, kicked or beaten. Instead please guide me with the encouragement and wisdom. For instance if I am chewing something wrong say "NO CHEW" and hand me a toy I CAN chew. Better still, pick ANYTHING up that you do not want me to get into. I can't tell the difference between your old sock and your new sock, or you old shoe and your new £150 Nikes.
I am a puppy and I am a creature with feelings and drives much like your own, but yet also very different. Although I am NOT a human in a dog suit neither am I an unfeeling robot who can instantly obey your every whim. I truly DO want to please you and be a part of your family and your life. You got me (I hope) because you want a loving partner and companion, so do not relegate me to the back garden when I get bigger, do not judge me harshly but instead mould me with gentleness and guidelines and training into the kind of family member you want.
I am a puppy and I am not perfect, I know you're not perfect either. I love you anyway. So please learn all you can about training and puppy behaviour and caring for me from your vet, books on dog care and even researching on the computer. Learn about my particular breed and its "characteristics" it will give you an understanding and insight into why I do the things I do. Please teach me with love, patience, the right way to behave and socialise me with training in a puppy class or obedience class, we will BOTH have a lot of fun together.
I am a puppy, and I want more than anything to love you, to be with you and too please you. Won't you please take the time to understand how I work? We are the same you and I in that we both feel, hunger, pain, thirst, discomfort and fear, but yet we are also very different and must work to understand one another's language, body signals, wants and needs. Some day I will be a handsome dog, hopefully one you can be proud of and one that you will love, as much as I love you.
Love your puppy.

Walking In A Doggie Wonderland !
Dogs tags ring, are you listening? In the lane, snow is glistening, It's yellow, not white, I've been there tonight, Marking up my Winder Wonderland!
Smell that tree? That's my fragrance. It's a sign for wand'ring vagrants, "Avoid where I pee, it's MY property! Marked up as my Winter Wonderland!"
In the meadow dad will build a snowman, Following the classical design. Then I'll lift my leg and let it go, man, So all the world will know it's mine, mine, mine!
Straight from me to the fence post Flows my natural incense boast, "Stay off my turf, this small piece of earth, I mark it as my Winder Wonderland!"

The Family Dog
The family's dog was bought for a guard, Chained to a post in the chilly backyard, Housed in a shed that was airless and dark, And every few weeks had a run in the park.
When boredom set in with no fun and no work, One day it broke loose and when quietly berserk. Pa couldn't fathom just why it went wild, As it flattened his wife and then bit his child.
The police were called in to sort out the mess, And the whole sorry tale was revealed by the press. The Rescue Society was really annoyed, So, the dog was rehomend ---- and the owners destroyed !!

8 Life Lessons Learned from a Dog
1. If you stare at someone long enough, eventually you'll get what you want. 2. Don't go out without I.D. 3. Be direct with people; let them know exactly how you feel by piddling on their shoes. 4. Be aware of when to hold your tongue, and when to use it. 5. Leave room in your schedule for a good nap. 6. Always give people a friendly greeting. A cold nose in the crotch is most effective. 7. When you do something wrong, always take responsiblity (as soon as you're dragged shamefully out from under the bed). 8. If it's not wet and sloppy, it's not a real kiss !! |
